What type of website is right for me?

When trying to decide what type of website is the right choice for you, you must first decide on what your goal is with creating your website.

There are three main choices to decide from, they are as follows:

1) HTML Based Site

This type of site would suit a large variety of different businesses as well as personal websites. An information based site would be made up mainly of text and images and would perfectly suit a business that does not wish to sell goods directly online, e.g. Service based businesses like trades and services and informational sites about a company, product or general information about a specific area of interest. This type of site will get indexed by search engines very well and would work well in getting traffic from search engines.

2) Flash Based Site

A Flash based site is a site which is made using the programming language "Flash". Flash based websites give the user a fast loading, highly interactive environment, which also can showcase high end graphics and animation and integrate them in a layout which is far superior to html, giving you the ability to utilize all of your artistic skills.

There are a great number of different uses for a flash based web site, ranging from entertainment, i.e. games, movies and music, to providing a showcase for a companies brand.

As flash is more difficult to update, it is better suited to websites where the information isn't going to change often for example, Restaurants, Hotels, Art/Photo galleries, IT companies, Bands and Schools.

3) E-Commerce Web Sites

An Ecommerce web site is for businesses that wish to sell goods over the internet. A good example of an e commerce web site would be Amazon.com

This type of web site can often take some time to setup, but once it is getting traffic from search engines, it can bring a great deal of additional business that would otherwise never have had the opportunity to purchase your products.

An E-commerce web site is like a store that is open 24 hours a day which can process credit card payments instantly.

Other types of web sites

Forums - These are digital message boards where you can post messages about a specific topic and view other peoples ideas and impressions of the topic

Blogs / Weblogs - A weblog is basically an online journal where other people can view your day to day impressions on your personal life or specific projects.
